United Way to collaborate with MLK Community Center on MLK Day
United Way supporters volunteered to help families and students from IPS School 43
United Way of Central Indiana teamed up with the MLK Community Center on January 16, for a day of service, providing support to students and families of IPS School 43 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Volunteers distributed coats to students, hosted a voter registration booth and distributed household necessity kits and books. Families and students were able to participate in these activities and enjoy snacks and crafts at the center.
“We are excited to partner with the MLK Community Center on this day of service that will touch so many lives,” said Sheila Bradley, United Way of Central Indiana Corporate Volunteerism Manager. “The MLK Center is a unique community center that really addresses all of United Way’s priority areas in education, financial stability, health and basic needs. We were delighted to have the opportunity to partner with them and serve this community as a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King.”
The MLK Center is focused on strengthening the communities and neighborhoods it serves by providing a comprehensive approach through their programs and services – aiming to address the needs of an entire household. Activities range from homework assistance and leadership development, to meals and BINGO, to grief counseling, job training and community forums.
