A New Chair and a New Look for Women United

Women United is a diverse force of over 70,000 dedicated, driven women leaders in more than 165 communities inspired by the mission of United Way. These game changers have invested more than $1.5 billion in communities across the nation since 2002; United Way of Central Indiana’s Women United group of over 600 members contributed a whopping $3.9 million to Central Indiana in 2016 alone. United Way Worldwide recently hosted the Women United summit, where women leaders from across United Ways joined together to discuss the next chapter of Women United groups across the country. One big announcement from the event: Women United is unveiling new branding! We are excited to share the updated look of Women United – the group that rallies strong and passionate women leaders around an enthusiastically positive vision for the future. A future where women unite together to fight for the education, financial stability, health and basic needs of everyone in our community. Our very own Women United group also has some big announcements to share! We are happy to announce our new chair for 2018-2019: Dorothy Hoffman, a health policy leader at Eli Lilly and Company. Dorothy brings a strategic vision, momentous energy and a passion for working with others to find solutions to social and public policy challenges in our communities. Learn more about Dorothy in her member spotlight and be on the lookout for her blog series coming out soon. Dorothy is excited to expand Women United’s impact on early childhood education throughout Central Indiana. This year alone, a combined 97 volunteers have produced 1,000 literacy kits for local children. For 2018, Women United is considering creating STEM kits to help children learn about science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Women United hopes to give children a window into the world of STEM and expose them to career possibilities they may not otherwise consider. Women United hopes to especially inspire young girls to pursue STEM careers, considering women make up less than one-third of STEM professionals in the U.S. Thanks to the combined efforts of the over 600 Women United members, more low-income children will have access to high-quality pre-k education in the coming years. But the fight has just begun for the 27,000 low-income children in Central Indiana. From writing over 500 letters to our legislators in support of the pre-k expansion bill to helping improve local childcare centers, Women United is on the forefront of the fight for early childhood education. Are you ready to join the fight?
