New United Way report highlights work of human services sector during pandemic

INDIANAPOLIS – United Way of Central Indiana has released a new report, COVID-19 After Action Review, highlighting key insights, successes and challenges faced by the Central Indiana human services sector in during the coronavirus pandemic.   

This comprehensive review, undertaken with the aim of enhancing future preparedness and response capabilities, sheds light on the resilience demonstrated by the human services sector amid unprecedented challenges. Through stories of dedication and innovation, the report showcases how organizations across Central Indiana navigated the crisis, adapted their services and forged new partnerships to support communities in need. 

Key findings from the report include: 

  • Community Response: Success stories such as Indy Rents highlight the sector's ability to adapt and address critical needs, with a focus on racial justice and the emergence of new lines of communication. 

  • Cross-Sector Collaboration: The report underscores the importance of collaboration, showcasing unexpected partnerships formed with local organizations, government agencies and volunteers to amplify impact on community well-being. 

  • Crisis Management Strategies: While successes are celebrated, gaps in crisis management are also identified, including a lack of clear guidance, equitable access to technology and insufficient messaging of updates and information. 

United Way of Central Indiana encourages stakeholders to explore the findings of the COVID-19 After Action Review to inform future strategies and enhance community resilience.
